Description

Monster Train 2, the anticipated sequel to the acclaimed deckbuilding roguelike, has officially been announced for Nintendo Switch.

Publisher Big Fan Games, under the Devolver Digital label, along with developer Shiny Shoe, revealed the new entry is set to launch on Nintendo’s hybrid console in 2025.

The announcement builds on the momentum established by the original Monster Train, which debuted on Steam in 2020 and quickly became a fan favorite, amassing over 18,000 'Overwhelmingly Positive' user reviews. Returning to its signature train-bound tactical battles, Monster Train 2 will expand on the foundations of its predecessor by introducing a wide range of new features and deep strategic possibilities.

Players will once again assemble decks of cards and lead multispectral assaults across three distinct train floors, now aided by the inclusion of five brand new playable Clans.

Each Clan introduces unique tactical advantages and playstyles, encouraging experimentation and rewarding adaptability as players face off against challenging new enemy factions. According to Shiny Shoe and Big Fan Games, Monster Train 2 introduces hundreds of new and familiar cards, with the innovative addition of Room Cards, Equipment Cards, and the return of fan-favorite Neutral Cards.

Room Cards offer powerful, floor-specific boosts, while Equipment Cards add stacking powers onto individual units, creating dynamic, in-the-moment strategic choices.

The ability for players to activate unit abilities during battle, rather than relying solely on passive effects, represents a significant evolution in the game’s combat depth. The sequel is also packed with quality-of-life enhancements and new gameplay modes.

Train customization allows players to strategically buff their rolling stronghold, and the inclusion of Endless Mode, Daily and Dimensional challenges, run mutators, and leaderboards promise extensive replayability and a robust competitive scene for the Nintendo Switch community.

Both new and veteran players can expect a gripping experience full of tense moments and meaningful decisions as they battle to unite Heaven and Hell against the Titans in the sequel’s fresh narrative arc. While a precise release date has yet to be announced beyond the confirmed 2025 window, anticipation is high among fans of strategic card games and roguelikes.

The original Monster Train’s Switch debut in 2021 may have flown under the radar for some, but word of mouth and critical acclaim have cemented its legacy as a must-try title for genre enthusiasts. Monster Train 2’s arrival on Nintendo Switch reflects the platform’s ongoing appeal for deep, replayable strategy games.

As more information is shared in the coming months, including a potential feature on Nintendo Direct or eShop updates, keep an eye out for further developments on this standout sequel from Shiny Shoe and Big Fan Games.
