Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition has officially launched on the Nintendo Switch, bringing significant improvements over its 2015 Wii U predecessor.
Developed by Monolith Soft and published by Nintendo, this sprawling RPG adventure has been brought into the modern era, allowing more players to experience its vast open world and deep sci-fi narrative.
The game's arrival on the Nintendo Switch platform also continues Nintendo’s legacy of revitalizing beloved titles for new hardware generations.
In a recent discovery, prominent modder MasaGratoR identified a hidden 60fps mode within Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, as reported by wccftech.
While the standard release runs at 30 frames per second, this concealed feature indicates the game has the potential for significantly smoother performance.
However, MasaGratoR explained that the mode currently does not function as expected and leads to unusual gameplay issues.
"Gameplay is rendered every second frame, so while 60 frames are outputted per second, only 30 of those frames are genuinely usable for gameplay," the modder clarified in a recent social media post.
Despite the hidden feature’s limitations, the existence of a 60fps mode within the code suggests Monolith Soft may have considered – or may still be exploring – enhanced performance options, especially with the impending arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2.
The upcoming hardware is expected to offer improved capabilities and will support backwards compatibility for the majority of physical and digital Nintendo Switch titles, including Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition.
Industry analysts and fans alike are eagerly speculating whether Nintendo will leverage the Switch 2’s additional power to boost the frame rates and graphical quality of its existing library.
While there is no official statement from Nintendo regarding specific upgrades for Xenoblade Chronicles X, the presence of a hidden 60fps mode strengthens the conversation around future enhancements.
Nintendo is set to share more details in the forthcoming Nintendo Direct, scheduled for April 2, 2025, where gamers anticipate announcements regarding the Switch 2’s hardware, launch lineup, and potentially its pricing.
As players look forward to the next wave of Nintendo innovation, the discovery within Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition represents both a technical curiosity and a possible hint at what’s to come for flagship titles on new Nintendo platforms.
