Final Fantasy VII Rebirth demo lands on Nintendo Switch 2 as pre-orders open

Square Enix has released a free demo for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on Nintendo Switch 2 through the Nintendo eShop, ahead of the game's full launch on June 3, 2026.

The demo provides an early look at the sequel in Square Enix's ongoing Final Fantasy VII trilogy and is intended to give Switch 2 owners a hands-on preview before launch.

What the demo includes

According to Square Enix's press materials, the demo covers Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

Players who try the demo on Nintendo Switch 2 can carry their saved progress into the full release: Square Enix confirms that progress made in the demo will transfer to the full game once purchased.

Pre-order editions and bonuses

Pre-orders for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth are now open for Nintendo Switch 2.

Square Enix has outlined the contents of the digital and physical editions available at launch:

- Digital Edition (Standard): Includes Magic Pot Summoning Materia, Reclaimant Choker accessory, Orchid Bracelet armor, a digital artbook and a mini-soundtrack.

- Digital Deluxe Edition: Adds the Moogle Trio and Posh Chocobo Summoning Materia plus Shinra Bangle Mk.

II and Midgar Bangle Mk.

II armor to the Standard Edition bonuses.

- Physical Edition (Nintendo Switch 2): Pre-orders of the physical edition include a special Magic: The Gathering — FINAL FANTASY Zack Fair card featuring variant art by Tetsuya Nomura, while supplies last.

Platform context and trilogy update

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth continues Square Enix's multi-part retelling of the original 1997 title.

Square Enix has also confirmed that the trilogy's third and final part will be released on Nintendo Switch 2, ensuring that players who adopt the platform now can remain on the platform for the series' conclusion.

How to get the demo

Switch 2 owners can download the demo from the Nintendo eShop immediately.

The trial covers the opening chapters and is intended to transfer progress to the full game if players choose to purchase Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on or after the June 3, 2026 release date.
