Reviving a cult classic for a modern audience, developer BLAST ZERO and publisher Red Dunes Games have announced 'Samurai Pizza Cats: Blast from the Past,' a 2D action RPG adaptation of the beloved '90s animated series, Samurai Pizza Cats.
The game is scheduled for release in 2026 across all major platforms, breathing new life into a treasured franchise with the addition of its original voice cast in both English and Japanese.
Samurai Pizza Cats was an iconic action-comedy series created by Saban, centering on the adventures of three feisty feline heroes—Speedy Cerviche, Polly Esther, and Guido Anchovy—tasked with protecting the futuristic metropolis of Little Tokyo.
While the show amassed a devoted following during its run, its presence has since faded into nostalgia for many fans.
The forthcoming video game, 'Samurai Pizza Cats: Blast from the Past,' aims to recapture that magic, offering a fresh 2D action RPG experience that draws deeply from the show's signature blend of slapstick, swordplay, and over-the-top anime style.
Unlike standard platformers, the new title allows players to seamlessly switch between the trio of protagonists.
Each character's unique abilities will be essential for solving environmental puzzles and overcoming platforming challenges, maintaining faithful ties to the show's dynamics.
The game's first trailer highlights the use of cel-shaded graphics that authentically mirror the '90s anime aesthetic, as well as energetic, character-driven voiceover work.
Crucially, 'Samurai Pizza Cats: Blast from the Past' will reunite fans with the voices they remember.
The English dub sees the return of Rick Jones, Sonja Ball, Terrence Scammell, and Dean Hagopian, while the Japanese version features Kappei Yamaguchi, Ai Orikasa, Ikuya Sawaki, Naoki Tatsuta, and Kenyu Horiuchi.
Seiichirō Yamashita will step in for Jurota Kosugi in the role of Sukashii (Guido) for this revival, ensuring continuity for Japanese-speaking audiences.
The development team at BLAST ZERO has expressed a commitment to delivering the game on 'all major platforms.' While no platforms have been explicitly confirmed yet, the timing of the 2026 launch makes it probable that the game will span both existing systems like the Nintendo Switch and the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2.
Distribution via digital storefronts such as the Nintendo eShop is likely, following current industry standards for multi-platform releases.
As nostalgia-fueled revivals continue to thrive in the gaming space, 'Samurai Pizza Cats: Blast from the Past' stands out for combining authentic source material with contemporary action RPG gameplay and full voice cast reunions.
More information, including confirmed platforms and further gameplay footage, is expected as the project progresses toward its 2026 release.
Fans of classic anime, retro cartoons, or unique RPG experiences should keep a close eye on further updates from BLAST ZERO and Red Dunes Games.
