Pokémon Scarlet and Violet continue to engage players with exciting in-game events, and the 7 Star Garchomp Tera Raid Battle is the latest high-difficulty challenge available on Nintendo Switch.
Developed by Game Freak, this event provides seasoned trainers with a unique opportunity to battle and potentially capture a powerful Tera Ground-type Garchomp.
The 7 Star Garchomp Tera Raid Battle event is live now, running until May 25, and will return for a second period from May 30 to June 1, 2024.
Garchomp, already a formidable foe in the Pokémon universe, takes on the Tera Ground type for this raid.
This transformation amplifies the impact of Ground-type attacks, particularly Earthquake, while also increasing Garchomp's vulnerability to Water, Grass, and Ice-type moves.
To succeed against 7 Star Garchomp, trainers should prioritize Pokémon that either resist or are immune to Ground-type attacks and can utilize Water, Grass, or Ice-type moves.
In this event, Garchomp's standard moveset includes Earthquake, Liquidation, Fire Fang, and Poison Jab.
At the outset of the battle or when the timer is at 99% remaining, it uses Breaking Swipe, and at roughly 75% time, it employs Swords Dance to boost its offensive threat.
Among the recommended counters, Dondozo with the Unaware ability stands out as a top choice.
Equipping Dondozo with moves such as Curse and Liquidation allows trainers to build up its Attack and Defense.
Additional move options include Rest, Sleep Talk, Protect, Body Press, or Waterfall.
Liquidation also carries a chance to lower Garchomp’s Defense, making it a valuable move when whittling down the raid boss.
To maximize effectiveness, it's recommended to train Dondozo with 252 EVs in HP and Defense, use a Tera Water type for even greater resistance, and equip it with the Shell Bell item for sustainability.
A strong team can also include Bronzong with the Levitate ability and maximum EVs in HP and Defense.
Outfitted with Reflect, Light Clay, Iron Defense, Body Press, and Rain Dance, Bronzong offers valuable support by reducing damage from physical moves and providing weather control.
A Water Tera type helps Bronzong manage Garchomp's Fire Fang, and maintaining Reflect and Rain Dance boosts the team’s durability throughout the raid.
Players with Manaphy can consider a Tail Glow and Scald strategy, focusing on both defense and special attack, although Manaphy's rarity may make this approach less accessible to some.
Regardless of your squad composition, keeping defensive cheers and healing options at the ready is essential for surviving Garchomp’s devastating attacks over the course of the battle.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are available now exclusively on Nintendo Switch, and the regular updates and events such as this Tera Raid Battle continue to extend the life of these titles.
