Nintendo Switch 2 Awareness and Pre-Order Demand Highlighted in Latest Japanese Survey The Nintendo Switch 2, the highly anticipated successor to Nintendo’s acclaimed Nintendo Switch hardware, continues to capture headlines across the industry.

As fans in Japan and around the world await more information through official Nintendo Direct presentations and other channels, a recent survey conducted from June 18 to 19, 2025, by the Knowns app provides an illuminating snapshot of public awareness, purchase intent, and pricing perceptions surrounding the next-generation console. In the survey, 2,882 respondents living in Japan were asked about their familiarity with the Nintendo Switch 2.

Results indicate that the console has already made a significant impact: 60.6% of participants reported that they are aware of the Nintendo Switch 2’s existence, while another 31.4% indicated that they know of the console but are unclear about its specific features.

An additional 5.8% have at least heard of the name, and only a small fraction—2.2%—said they are unfamiliar with the device altogether.

These figures suggest an exceptionally high level of public awareness for Nintendo’s upcoming hardware. Demand for the Nintendo Switch 2 also appears robust.

Of those surveyed, 35% stated that they had entered a pre-order lottery for the Nintendo Switch 2, a system commonly used in Japan to allocate popular products fairly due to high demand.

Among the lottery applicants, 26.8% successfully secured a console, while 73.2% did not.

For those who were unsuccessful, the majority remain persistent: 45.5% plan to “definitely register on a lottery again,” and 35.5% would do so if possible.

Only 11.3% were uncertain about trying again, and just 7.6% expressed no intention to participate in future lotteries.

These responses underscore the strong desire among Japanese consumers to obtain the next generation of Nintendo hardware. Regarding pricing, Japanese respondents shared nuanced opinions.

Despite Japan offering the lowest retail price worldwide for the Nintendo Switch 2—albeit with region-specific restrictions—53.5% of those polled still feel that the system is expensive.

In comparison, 42.2% felt the pricing is fair, and just 4.3% considered the Switch 2 to be inexpensive.

This perspective aligns with ongoing discussions about affordability and value in the competitive gaming hardware market. The study also explored reactions to the secondary market, where scalpers resell the Nintendo Switch 2 at significant markups.

Nearly half of the respondents (48.8%) found scalper prices too high and were not interested in purchasing through these channels.

However, 22.5% said they might consider a purchase if the markup was moderate, and 17.4% indicated they would be willing to buy even at inflated prices.

11.4% were not interested in the product at all, suggesting that almost 40% of respondents are open to engaging with the secondary market despite concerns about pricing. Finally, public sentiment toward scalping remains predominantly negative in Japan’s gaming community.

The survey data revealed that 57.9% of respondents view scalping as immoral, while 24.9% regard it as regrettable but acknowledge that it is sometimes unavoidable.

9.4% saw no issue with the practice, and 7.8% stated they personally have not been affected. With the Nintendo Switch 2 generating significant attention and anticipation within Japan, these survey results highlight strong demand, active consumer engagement through pre-order systems, and ongoing challenges around pricing and hardware accessibility.

As Nintendo moves forward with future communications and console launches—potentially announcing further details in forthcoming Nintendo Direct presentations or through the eShop—industry watchers will be keenly interested in how the company responds to consumer demand and addresses the hardware’s accessibility challenges.
